To dream another dream

In an asylum.

Millions of joys

Giving an essence of fulfilment

Job, security, home, children

In a chocolate-wrapped warmth.

Absinthe fails to erase your memories

You keep on waiting for the yellow petals

Sunflowers, Marigolds, Daffodils

Yellows: vibrant cheerful

But in your dreams slimy silences

Yellow lily, back rose, anemone

Poppy and violet hyacinth

You wriggle in trauma

Precipitating the pusses

Of a world gone terribly wrong.

Dr Anupama Chowdhury is an Assistant Professor of English, MUC Women's College, Burdwan, West Bengal. She has been widely published with journals of national and international repute. Her areas of interest are- Postcolonial Literatures, SAARC Literatures in English, Gender Studies and Contemporary Critical Theories. She has presented several papers in national and international seminars. She is currently engaged in her Post-Doctoral Research.
