The Quitter
So distressing, so depressing
despite Geeta’s detachment loudly ringing
to see a luminous star
a passionate fighter
a bright, beaming aspirer
a marvellous achiever
one who should put them on fire
the whole world inspire
become a quitter…
Some inherent flaw in the Creation—
Imperfect man
pestering for perfection…
Noblest souls
tallest stars
super sparks
adored leaders
revered sages
limp with limitations
face funky failures
some of them reduced to zeros
only yesterday they were heroes…
Every moment, a subtle subjugation
every day, a provocation
test of your inner strength, your conviction…
Every fulfilment faces a hundred hiccups…
Nature’s gift, onerous responsibility
rage of the image, great absurdity
easy escape, tempting possibility…
in the DNA
incomprehensible complexity
baffling mystery
crazy mind craving to dream big
restless soul evolving to make a new dig
suddenly feels lost in the tangled maze
personal, social, psychological haze
stresses and strains overwhelm, daze…
Cynicism, a flashy burn, turns him into a quitter…
But who is not a victim of these chimes bitter?
Maybe
he thinks, it’s all over—
he has given to the world
whatever he could…
Nothing more…
Despises to drag on
an insipid, inane existence…
Well, Questionable Questions…
But no need, elevation or denigration
celebration or denunciation…
An exceptional person
an exceptional perception…
Who are we to question an evolved soul
Geniuses have their own connection with the Oversoul…

Dr O. P. Arora is a renowned poet, novelist, short story writer and critic. Eight volumes of his poems have endeared him to the readers and critics alike.
