I Tried
He asked,
"Why can't you write something
joyful —
something that spreads happiness,
cheers the world?"
I said, "I'll try."
I handed my pen the paper.
It coughed once,
spat pain and thick blood,
then died across the white,
burning the sheet to ashes.
