Long ago two legends twined,
Where fate and destiny
intertwined.
Two tender daughters, newly born
and left forlorn
where their mothers' scents no
longer lingered.
Their cradles rocked by stranger
hands,
Raised far from blood, in distant
lands
Babies destined for the throne.
These verses narrate their life,
abandoned by blood and abandoned
by fate.
Both found love in a king's gaze
A broken bow and a thorn that
grazed
Two moments, changing their lines
of destiny
and two hearts joined in
matrimony.
Two hearts bound by sacred flame
Yet fate would test each small
claim.
One love was a secret, only trees
listened to
A promise, only the breeze stood
witness to
A love, only a ring could prove
A love, only a curse could move
A curse of righteousness, stern
and cold
endangering a love of eternity to
be held
One man's word that swayed it all
One man's word that made the sky
fall.
Now twice abandoned, once by birth
And once by those who measured
worth,
to the same forests that bore
witness
to an oath meant to hold like a
fortress
And then was a trial by flame, to
prove her purity
Humiliated, but this was Man’s
world in all its essence.
Perhaps this was fate's woven art
Two Women born alone and left
forlorn
Yet when Shakuntala retraced her
love’s fading thread of fate,
Sita chose to make her own.
If all it took was one man's word,
For her entire being to be
questioned;
then let Mother Bhoomi draw her
near
for no such world deserved her
here.
