Manto has often been equated with D. H. Lawrence in his treatment of sex and sexuality and Bu, along with other writings landed Manto in court. Seen today, it is one of the finest pieces of writing in the genre of the Urdu short story and this short story is popular in Urdu as well as in translation. In the story, the hero’s perception of sexual experience is surprisingly rooted to a domain that leaves hardly any trace in Romantic history, to the fleeting realm of odour or scent. It is through the exploration of odour or scent that the hero compares two women in his life, whom he meets at different points of time. The odour becomes a commonality in the space-time continuum in the hero’s life yet it helps to differentiate every other relationship, or rather the insufficiency of every other relationship, how socially sanctified it might be. Manto does not compare merely two women, it is the artist at work, who pulls down the shams of romantic images associated with relationships. The paper uses the tool of the subversion of romance to study this effect.
Dr. Amrita Basu ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 1 7 The Body of the Condemned: Examining Gender Violence during the Partition in Manto’s Works
The Body of the Condemned: Examining Gender Violence during the Partition in Manto’s Works
by Rudrani Gangpadhyay
Rudrani Gangpadhyay ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 8 20 Jhunmun and the Horrible Spider
Jhunmun and the Horrible Spider
by Ajay Pratap
Ajay Pratap ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 21 35 Fragments of Memory in the Times of War: Dispatches from Unconscious
Fragments of Memory in the Times of War: Dispatches from Unconscious
by Ameen Fayaz
Ameen Fayaz ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 36 39 The Tran Family
The Tran Family by Dan Corfield
Dan Corfield ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 40 45 The Word Catcher
The Word Catcher by Dr Ranjana Sunil Alexiose
Dr Ranjana Sunil Alexiose ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 46 49 Gift of My First Love
Gift of My First Love by Ranjeet Singh
Ranjeet Singh ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 50 54 Soil
Soil by Katta Rajamouly
Katta Rajamouly ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 55 57 At the Threshold of Insanity
At the Threshold of Insanity by Lakshmy Menon Chatterjee
Lakshmy Menon Chatterjee ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 58 61 Not in Vogue, Don’t Look For a Romantic Story
Not in Vogue, Don’t Look For a Romantic Story by Merlin Flower
Merlin Flower ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 62 64 The Malodorous Jay, Colorful Prison Poems
The Malodorous Jay, Colorful Prison Poems
by Pinaki Dewan
Pinaki Dewan ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 65 67 À la Clinique
À la Clinique by Raad Kareem Abd-Aun
Raad Kareem Abd-Aun ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 68 70 The Dark Alley!
The Dark Alley! by Snehal Deb
Snehal Deb ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 71 73 Not a Word, Nor Sufficient Moment, FOREWORD, FOREFINGER
Not a Word, Nor Sufficient Moment, FOREWORD, FOREFINGER
Poems by Tatjana Debeljacki
Tatjana Debeljacki ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 74 77 Reviews Ketaki Datta’s One Year for Mourning
Reviews Ketaki Datta’s One Year for Mourning
Rumpa Das ##submission.copyrightStatement## 2018-10-07 2018-10-07 2 3 78 83
